WHO WE NEED
We are looking for an experienced Senior Navigation / Controls Engineer with Strong proficiency in C++ and Python and in autonomous systems, robotics, or aerospace-adjacent navigation software to join a team of high-growth startup environments characterized by zero bureaucracy and massive engineering challenges. You will work alongside top-tier industry experts to build a product that is redefining the future of aviation.
Our client is an ambitious US-based startup developing one of the most technically demanding autonomous aircraft in existence today. We are seeking a visionary and high-caliber technical leader to take full ownership of the system’s “brain” — the navigation stack that ensures stability and flight safety in the most challenging environments.
This is a role for those who want to see their code in the sky, powering aircraft capable of 20-hour autonomous missions.
As aN Engineer, you will
You will design and implement the firmware layer closest to the physical aircraft:
- Hardware-to-Software Bridge: Develop hardware abstraction layers (HAL) and sensor device drivers directly from hardware datasheets and schematics.
- Architecture & Real-time Logic: Design RTOS task architectures, inter-system communication protocols, and mission-critical failsafe logic.
- Hardware Collaboration: Work alongside the client’s electrical engineers, contributing code that runs on the V3 flight computer under hard real-time constraints.
- Validation: Set up Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test infrastructure to ensure every firmware component is validated against a simulated aircraft before it ever takes flight.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years writing firmware in C and/or C++ on production embedded hardware
- RTOS experience: FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar in a real product context
- Device driver development from hardware datasheets: SPI, I2C, CAN, UART
- Board bring-up and hardware debugging with oscilloscope / logic analyzer
- Hardware Abstraction Layer design and implementation
- Strong written and spoken English — all technical documentation and client reviews are in English.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS THAT WILL BE AN ADVANTAGE
- Experience in safety-adjacent applications: automotive, industrial, medical, or aviation-adjacent
- WCET (worst-case execution time) analysis and real-time task scheduling
- MAVLink or custom UAV telemetry protocol implementation
- HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) test environment setup
- Experience collaborating with hardware teams in different time zones
- Degree in electronics engineering computer engineering, or embedded systems
Client and Domain
- Client: a aerospace product company
- Country: USA
- Domain: Aviation & Aerospace
